Describe an unforgettable experience at SMU.

With SMU’s guaranteed global experience, I spent an unforgettable half a year at University College London (UCL), which helped foster my independence, and taught me the value of true inclusivity. It also allowed me to freely express myself!

How has SMU challenged you both personally and academically?

As an introvert, SMU’s interactive pedagogy has pushed me out of my comfort zone. The seminar-style classes have also taught me to ask meaningful questions and engage in discussions on topics I’m passionate about and have boosted my confidence.

Which module has left the greatest impact on you?

The Valuation module taught by Associate Professor of Accounting (Practice) Cheng Nam Sang. His engaging teaching style and great sense of humour made complex concepts both accessible and fascinating. This course enhanced my understanding of financial valuation and its real-world applications – my interest in the field has now shaped my career aspirations!

Tell us more about your internships at SMU.

I’ve been able to intern as a Finance Transformation Intern at the Accountant-General’s Department, and as an Audit and Assurance Intern at Moore Singapore. SMU’s practical focus helped me excel in both roles, from assessing future finance initiatives to providing financial reporting services for fund management companies.

Meanwhile, I’m currently interning at J.P. Morgan as a Summer Analyst.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your freshman self?

Embrace your interests fearlessly – it’s never too late to pursue your passion.

Also, seek out diverse perspectives, even those you don’t agree with. These interactions enrich your understanding and personal growth.
