The TL;DR

A self-professed sports buff, incoming SMU Accountancy freshman Kieran Kho thrives on adrenaline—whether on the rugby field or racing around a go-kart track. Drawn to SMU’s flexible curriculum, small class sizes, and city campus, he’s excited to start his journey by building friendships and embracing student life.

For incoming Accountancy freshman Kieran Kho, life is all about momentum—whether it’s charging down the rugby pitch, zipping around a go-kart track, or diving into new challenges. As he gears up for university life, Kieran shares what he’s most excited about at SMU and how his passions shape his approach to learning.

Tell us more about yourself.

I would call myself a sports buff, especially when it comes to my favourite sports: rugby and motorsports. I love anything with a bit of adrenaline.

Outside of sports, I enjoy exploring new cultures through travel and experimenting in the kitchen with recipes from my trips.

These hobbies have taught me to be curious, creative, and resilient—qualities I carry into how I work and approach challenges.

What are some of your interests beyond academic goals?

To recharge, I turn to quality time with family and friends, mystery and thriller films, and plenty of physical activity.

As an adrenaline junkie, I love go karting as I find it thrilling and exhilarating. I also stay active by going to the gym and playing tennis with my friends and family.

What made you decide on SMU?

I chose SMU mainly for three reasons.

First, the city campus makes it very convenient for me to go to school. Its prime location offers easy access to food, shopping, and various activities.

Secondly, the guaranteed second major allows me to expand my learning and knowledge. The interdisciplinary and flexible curriculum would give me the opportunity to take up modules outside of my field of study, widening my future job prospects.

Lastly, the small class sizes would mean more engaging and personalised attention that caters to my learning needs.

What are you looking forward to the most when the school year opens?

I’m most looking forward to making new friends and exploring the campus grounds, such as good study and chill spots to unwind, and campus facilities such as the gym and swimming pool.

I’m also eager to discover the wide range of campus activities and CCAs. These have always been a big part of my learning experience, and I can’t wait to see how I can grow beyond the classroom.

And of course, the student discounts at nearby food places—definitely a bonus!
