TL;DR

Sean Poo is a passionate runner, football enthusiast, and budding photographer. Eager to deepen and broaden his academic journey, he’s chosen SMU’s double degree programme in Business Management and Economics. As he prepares to start university life, Sean looks forward to forging new friendships and diving into the vibrant SMU community in the heart of Singapore.

For Sean Poo, life is best experienced on the move—whether he’s sprinting through a weekend run or deep in the flow of editing a photo. A passionate runner, football player, and avid photographer, Sean believes in challenging himself—both physically and academically.

This mindset led him to choose SMU’s double degree programme in Business Management and Economics, which he sees as the perfect way to broaden his horizons and equip himself for the future.

Tell us more about yourself, and your interests beyond academic goals.

I discovered a love for running during National Service. Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time—and probably too much money—on running gear and races!

Running is more than just a sport for me. It’s a way to connect with friends, stay disciplined, and stay grounded. On weekends, you’ll often find me lacing up for early morning runs with my running buddies. At SMU, I’m eager to join the university’s active student clubs and meet fellow fitness enthusiasts.

I also enjoy photography and video editing—skills I’ve picked up through self-learning and experimenting. I hope to explore these interests further through CCA opportunities on campus.

What made you decide on SMU?

SMU’s guaranteed second major and double degree opportunities really appealed to me. I wanted to study across different disciplines to gain a wider perspective.

My chosen combination—Business Management and Economics—complements each other well and will give me a strong foundation in understanding both market dynamics and strategic decision-making.

And of course, the campus’s central location is a bonus! There’s so much to explore in the city, and I think it’ll make university life even more fulfilling.

What appeals to you the most about the double degree programme?

What are you looking forward to the most when the school year opens?

I’m most excited about the connections I’ll build at SMU. I can’t wait to meet new people—both classmates and professors.

The smaller, interactive classes at SMU are something I’m really looking forward to. I think it’ll make learning much more engaging.

I’m also keen to dive into the array of student activities on offer. I hope to join some of the student clubs and meet others who are just as passionate about sports or photography. It’s always more meaningful when you share what you love with like-minded people.
