Meet Jarrett Chan—tech enthusiastic, music lover, and proud cat dad. As he starts his Computing and Law undergraduate studies at SMU, he’s looking forward to sparking conversations in class discussions and expanding his social circle along the way. 

Tell us more about yourself.

Fun fact: I have two cats who keep life interesting!  

I’m really into alternative Japanese fashion—think all black, chains, and punk-inspired pieces. I’m constantly on the lookout for new additions to my wardrobe, especially from Japanese brands. 

What are some of your interests beyond academic goals?

I’ve got pretty varied interests—music, sports, Japanese culture, and tech. I play the drums and used to play the guitar too.

Sports-wise, I’ve played badminton as my CCA since Primary 3 all the way through JC. Lately, I’ve started bowling seriously, joining the National Development Squad around six months ago, and I just received my national jersey, which is a huge milestone for me. 

What made you decide on SMU?  

I chose SMU because I love meaningful conversations, whether they’re deep discussions or light-hearted banter. The seminar-style classes are exactly the kind of setting where I thrive. I enjoy bouncing ideas around, sharing opinions, and hearing different perspectives, so SMU just felt like the perfect fit for me.
