The TL;DR

Aiken Teo, an incoming SMU freshman majoring in Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology, is always eager to explore new experiences. The avid Dungeons and Dragons player values SMU’s seminar-style classes and guaranteed global exposure. As the school year approaches, he looks forward to making new friends and trying out CCAs at SMU.

Driven by a desire to make the most of his time, Aiken Teo is always open to trying out new things, from food to hobbies. As the incoming freshman begins his undergraduate studies in Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology, he’s also looking to join a new CCA at SMU.

Tell us more about yourself.

I consider myself friendly and open-minded. I’m always open to trying new things with friends, whether it’s food, hobbies, or visiting new places.

I think this stems from my desire to experience all life has to offer. Given that time is finite, we may as well make the most of it.

As the authors and protagonists of our lives, I strongly believe we should strive to make our life story the best it can be, instead of cruising along and letting circumstances shape it for us.

What are some of your interests beyond academic goals?

I’m a casual Pokémon Trading Card Game player and I’ve tried out bodyweight workouts like calisthenics, but most of my interests revolve around storytelling!

Reading fiction and fantasy books inspired me to try the tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Since my first session in 2019, I’ve been hooked on the game; I currently host D&D games with my friends.

Shaping stories in real time through D&D wasn’t enough for me, which led me to Live Action Role-Play (LARP). I’ve since become an active member of the community in Singapore.

What made you decide on SMU?

I value the small class sizes and seminar-style format offered at SMU, as they encourage active discussion. These interactive classes help students stay engaged and get the most out of their learning experience.

I’ve never travelled overseas for academic purposes, so I’m especially looking forward to the guaranteed global experiences. Just thinking about the memories I’ll make with friends and the insights I’ll gain from my time abroad spark joy!

What are you looking forward to the most when the school year opens?

I am most psyched about the vibrant student life that I’ll experience when the school year opens! From making new friends at orientation camps to participating in club events, there is just so much to explore at SMU.

I’m eager to join a sports club, as I’ve always been part of a performing arts CCA. I remember watching athletes show incredible focus and grit during intense matches, followed by the sheer euphoria after a win. I want to feel what that is like for myself.
