Brimming with enthusiasm, these newcomers also bring with them a wealth of experiences and perspectives. They’re passionate about making a difference, from starting their businesses to working on cutting-edge research projects and volunteering in their local communities.

 

Join us in extending our warmest welcome to SMU Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology / Political Science / Sociology Major) student Siti Noormasliana, a passionate mental health advocate who had spearheaded a project for open discussions and perspectives on self-care and mental health issues during the circuit breaker. She is also a champion of social causes such as gender equality, inclusivity, and the welfare of migrant workers. Here she tells us on what she is looking forward to in the new school year at SMU.

 

What are some of your interests beyond academic goals?

 

I enjoy volunteering. I’ve always believed in the spirit of giving and providing care for our community. One of the causes that I strongly advocate is mental health, which is why I facilitate peer-to-peer support groups.

Why did you decide on SMU?

 

It is a great privilege to be part of a vibrant city campus. Another factor is the multidisciplinary nature of the academic curriculum, where students are encouraged to take on second majors from across the University.

 

Additionally, I highly resonate with SMU’s emphasis on global exposure. I look forward to broadening my horizons not just locally but also globally.
