Bharat Gangwani, a graduating student from the SMU School of Economics, says the University's unique pedagogy offers immense opportunities for students to have their voices heard. This has helped him to be more proactive in discussions during his internship. As a Resident Senior at Prinsep Street Residences, Bharat also relished in going for midnight strolls to places such as the Merlion Park, after a night of studying at the library with his friends.
For SMU School of Social Sciences undergraduate Christine Tan, the SMU-X modules have been a game changer. The experiential learning framework has helped her become more confident in tackling projects at work. She also enjoys SMU's seminar-style teaching, as the interactive discussions allow her to learn better and grow her confidence in expressing her opinions.
For SMU Business graduating student Muhammad Akid Abdul Rahim, SMU has provided a unique learning experience, such as its focus on independent learning and unique pedagogy, to prepare him for the workforce. Coming into SMU, Eunice Chew expected a more understated student life. Instead, what the Computer Science student discovered was an explosion of vibrance and diversity in SMU’s student experience. One of her fondest memories included cooling down sessions after dance practice with her CCA mates, while taking in the breathtaking city view from SMU's dance studio. From doing local and overseas internships to joining CCAs, Eunice feels extremely fulfilled as an SMU student.
As an introvert, SMU’s seminar-style classes has pushed Andrew Lee out of his comfort zone, nurturing him to engage in meaningful discussions and boosting his confidence. The School of Accountancy student, who juggles multiple roles at SMU (including being the Honorary Finance Secretary Deputy of SMU Students' Association), also relished in the vibrant student life on campus.
Face time with your professors can let one gain a richer understanding of what’s being taught in class – as SMU Law alumna Juhi Agrawal will tell you. On top of SMU's interactive pedagogy, Juhi had various opportunities to pick up cross-disciplinary knowledge. This includes participating in SMU-X mooting courses and the SMU Legal Innovation Tech (LIT) Hackathon.
As an SMU College of Integrative Studies (CIS) student, Suzanne Chan gets to design a study plan and take up various modules based on her interests in sustainable consumption and marketing. With different classes to attend to, she embraces the dynamic group of classmates she encounters. Suzanne also relishes in outdoor experiences with SMUXploration Crew, while making new friends along the way.
