Calling all prospective SMU students and parents who have been waiting for the SMU Open House, it’s finally here! SMU Open House 2022 is your sneak peek into our vibrant city campus, interactive teaching pedagogy, interdisciplinary curriculum, and transformational undergraduate experience. Taking place over the weekend of 19-20 Feb, SMU Open House 2022 offers more than 60 ‘live’ Zoom talks and 10AM-6PM text-based Live Chats over both days, as well as exciting on-campus experiences on Sunday 20 Feb! You can join in as many virtual sessions as you want, such as insightful information sessions, a live Zoom Application Workshop to help you ace your application and admissions interview, and even a sneak peek of our colourful Prinsep Street Residences for those looking for a home away from home in their university years. And if that’s not enough, we’ll also have weekday evening Zoom chats with SMU students taking place from 21-24 Feb, so you can get all your questions answered!
1. Gain invaluable insights at 60+ Zoom sessions
We know it’s a complicated time to be making major life decisions. That’s why we are putting together live Zoom talks helmed by professors and staff from across the University. Attend as many as you want to find out all about SMU’s undergraduate degree programmes, student life, global exposure and more! Or join us at our virtual admission sessions led by SMU’s Admissions Director who will provide first-hand insights and advice, and answer any questions you may have on being part of the SMU community. To further tap on our expert admissions team, attend a ‘live’ Application Workshop online for tips on how to navigate the application process, such as information on filling out your application and acing the admissions interview.
2. Try a class
You’ve probably heard about SMU’s signature interactive pedagogy — in place of lecture theatres are small, seminar-style classes comprising no more than 45 students each. This allows for strong professor-student interaction during open discussions, fostering a student-centred environment whereby ideas can be exchanged freely, rather than the one-way communication of traditional education. Don’t miss this chance to try a sample seminar class at this year’s Open House and get a taste of the interactive learning style that makes SMU so unique. 3. Experience our vibrant city campus
Hop on to an open-top bus tour to check out the surrounding sights of Singapore’s only city campus. Led by SMU student ambassadors, this breezy tour will take you around our centrally locally grounds – surrounded by museums, theatres, educational institutions, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and retail outlets. Sit back, enjoy the sights, and let your guides tell you all about the most popular student hangouts in the vicinity. Limited spaces available, so register now to avoid disappointment!
4. Engage one-on-one with our admissions counsellors
Admissions counsellors are the ultimate resource for guidance to answer any questions you might have about university. Help is at hand — or more specifically, your fingertips — via our text-based Live Chats. These private, one-on-one sessions provide personalised guidance to ensure you’re not alone as you take the next step in your education odyssey.
5. Hear it from the seniors
We have curated dedicated School Booths at the SMU Connexion — a five-storey green building in the heart of the city — so you can have a chat with students from across SMU to get the lowdown on what life is like as an SMU student. From the top modules to take, to how to navigate student life amid a pandemic, our seniors will spill the tea on the programmes you’ve shortlisted. Better yet, prep a list of tips you hope to get, such as favourite spots for an affordable meal, how to make the most out of freshman year, or opportunities for real-world learning through internships or experiential events. 6. Discover the major for you
With over 300 double major combinations and over 20 double degree programmes available, one of the best parts about being at SMU is the ability to tailor your education to suit your passions and supercharge your skillsets for an ever-changing economy. This virtual application will help you explore degree programmes and discover best-fit majors for your interests, achievements, and goals.
